  How did you spend your Saturdays?

  it's been 3 weeks and every weekend is so much fun, spending quality time with real friends who dont pretend... last week was bbq, this sat was potluck, next one is long weekend away from home... all in all love my life again.... how was your saturday?

  we were camping all weekend. Saturday I got a massage while the kids kayaked on the lake, then we went to visit some relatives nearby. after the visit we picked up dinner stuff and went back to camp and had a nice evening around the campfire.

  Christmas

  was raised a jw, started fading out about 3 and a half years ago.

  i recently had a child, and my in laws are baptist.

  they love christmas.

  you don't have to buy into the religious aspect of christmas. we raised our kids as dubs for 12 years, we quit attending in late November 2011. We didn't celebrate Christmas that year because we were still sorting out what the he** had just happened. By mid-January, thanks to this site and a lot of soul searching and talking, we decided that we could do whatever we felt would be enjoyable and fun, and skip the bits that didn't appeal to us. So in 2012, we had a great big fun Christmas, complete with a Sparlock tree topper and about a metric ton of presents. Next year we probably won't go so overboard. Since our kids have no interest in the religious "Christian" stuff, we just skip that. No baby Jesus, no church services, and no other religious trappings.

  Fading ... Do You Owe Witness Friends An Explanation?

  i'm curious about what you all think on this subject.

  when my husband and i became irregular about a year ago, and then inactive around 5 months ago, i felt that it would be hypocritical to take advantage of the social side of the witness community if we weren`t going to meetings or in service.

  we stopped entertaining (which we did quite regularly - theme parties, card parties, movie nights, big turkey dinners, breakfasts on holidays etc), and i slowly stopped accepting invitations for get togethers, playdates etc.

  I was never able to develop lasting, close friendships in the hall during the 13 years I attended. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that I work at a professional type job and my husband is a stay at home dad. I had little in common with most of the sisters and wasn't nearly subservient enough for the menfolk. I was basically inactive after the birth of our 3rd child in 2007, even though I still attended meetings pretty regularly. But we only ever got invited to stuff that the whole congregation was invited to - no playdates for the kids, no dinner invites, and only in absolute emergencies could we get anyone to babysit. When we quit attending meetings, it was very abrupt. I only received a couple of calls, which I did not answer or return, and I've only rarely encountered any dubs in public. I didn't feel obligated to explain myself because I knew that it wouldn't make any difference.

  I always thought the sisters looked ridiculous wearing sky high heels toting around all their stuff at the convention. All the seating required a considerable climb on the stairs, and it was a fair walk from the parking lot. The girls wearing prom style dresses looked silly too.

  Moving to Memphis

  one thing i like is no harsh winters.. it's scary but exciting moving to a new place.

  Head Gasket Sorted - with pics

  ok if you clicked on this you might be a mechanical geek like me.

  some people love buying shoes or handbags for me is shiny new tools.. for the last few weeks the head gasket has been blowing on my rover 214. fortunately the oil and water hasn't been mixing so no harm done.

  the combustion gases have been blowing through the water jacket which made it sounded like a witches cauldron.

  I remember when we were first married, Just Ron had a 75 Chevy Malibu. He had the carbuerator in pieces on the dining table more than once, and I remember he rebuilt the alternator once. There's no telling how many miles that car had, we rolled the odometer once but I don't think it was the first time. The cars we have now will easily do 250,000 miles with no major repairs.

  THE DC Hotel List

  so tonight finally had to make a decision about the dc.

  we missed saturday and sunday of the one we were assigned to.

  i was going to convieniently try to forget (been working most saturdays last few months) but she persisted tonight.

  When we first started attending conventions, we were assigned to Louisville, KY. The first year we went along with everyone else from the hall and stayed at a Ramada Inn. It was filthy and I refused to stay there again. The next year the elders wanted to group book the same hotel. We went on our own and booked a suite in a Sheraton Four Points. We got flack for not wanting to stay where everyone else was even though the hotel we picked was on the list. We got flack from hotel staff when we checked in because they thought we should downgrade to a regular room. We had two infants and needed the refrigerator and microwave and extra space for them to play. The next year we stayed at a Best Western, which was fine. I think after that we were assigned to Evansville, IN and we just commuted.

  JW attitudes to women

  i would be very interested to hear from you ladies on this one.

  i know that the society keeps women in subjugation through the headship cr@p but didn't ahve any sense about hoew prehistoric the attitudes are until the other day when we were driving out of the supermarket car park and my wife spotted a woman dressed in tight shorts (it has been very hot here) and she commented 'they say that women who dress like that dserve to be raped'.

  i did a wtf and overreacted 'how can you blame the victim like that - such attitudes give men a lciense to commit rape and make women feel they are to balme if they get raped which in turn means that rape doesn't get reported and it gopes on with impunity.

  When I began my association with the Borg, I was a professional woman accustomed to telling men (and women) what to do. It never really occurred to me that my gender alone would disqualify me from using my skills to benefit the congregation. However, I was tired and overstretched due to a busy career, a pregnancy, and then a new baby. A second pregnancy and new baby soon followed and I had no interest in taking on a single additional task. The idea that women weren't required to do anything beyond show up to meetings and go out in service seemed like a good deal at the time. Just Ron and I shared decision making at home, and that never changed. He never developed the attitude that I was less competent based on my gender. Eventually, the anti-female attitudes at the hall started to grate on me though.
